Fountain Kits Pond Confusion?

I recently purchased a large pond kit. He came with an engine capacity of 535 gph and is about 1100 liters. I found that is not kept clean with this kit and the source of my pond. I live in Florida, so I try to reduce algae. The more I read, the more I get confused, get a pond. Do we need a skimmer and waterfall filter? How much pump? How can the bomb on the ship? This is so confusing!
